Lori Goodrich

I am a person–centered, engagement-based occupational therapist who provides services for kids, teens, adults. I utilize an integrated approach with sensory, neurodevelopmental and trauma sensitive models as my cornerstones.

My passion for occupational therapy lies in understanding and supporting the unique needs of each individual and family I work with.  The personal connections, shared experiences, and “ah-ha” moments that occur within the therapeutic relationship are meaningful parts of my work with folks.

Rooted in the core value of making a difference, I offer mentoring and workshops within the community with a variety of professionals that is an extension of the approach I use when working with individuals and their families.

In addition to my love for all things OT, I enjoy spending time in nature, playing pickleball and learning new art mediums.

My Approach

At my core as an OT, I am committed to “getting to the why” and helping individuals, families and teams understand both strengths and barriers related to function. My personal approach to occupational therapy is to understand meaningful occupations of an individual and use a variety of approaches to support function and participation based on the person’s goals and needs.  I provide opportunities for the following:

Supporting foundational development of skills necessary for an occupation: This could be improving building blocks for an outcome, such as improving fine motor and eye skills to support writing capacities. For many of the individuals I work with, this is a natural starting point for therapy that provides a positive and graded experience to build skills and confidence.

Experience and support within an occupation: For many people engaging within the experience of the actual occupation or task is beneficial and helps connect work in therapy to functional everyday tasks. This might be components of food interaction, such as cutting up or serving food, to support meaningful mealtime participation.

Modifications and adaptations to a task: Modifying task demands is one approach to enhance quality of life and participation. An example of this might be considering what foods match an individual’s chewing and sensory preferences.

Modifications or adaptations to an environment: Modifying environmental demands can also be used to enhance participation. This might include considering desk placement to support attention in the work or school setting or providing choices for location within the kitchen to support food consumption.
